The Ins and Outs of a Hardgainer Diet

One of the biggest keys to success for a hardgainer to get muscle is nutrition. Although exercise is quite important in training muscles, they need to be fueled optimally with a hardgainer diet in order to grow. As one progresses in muscle gain, it gets harder and harder to gain another pound of muscle. There is very little room for error with regards to nutrition. This is why they need to pay so much attention to the diet. There comes a point when someone who is doing everything in the gym right is unable to gain weight and unable to increase the poundage of the weights.

There are a few things that one must be before being considered a hardgainer. First of all, he needs to be doing all of the major exercises every week such as the squat, shoulder press, and bench press. Secondly, workouts must be over one hour in order to allow for recuperation of tired muscles. Thirdly, he needs to get enough sleep every night. Finally, he needs to make sure he is eating enough food by counting all of the calories eaten in a day. If he does not do all of the above, he may not really be a hardgainer. He may be one of the many who has a big flaw in their program, and thus does not need a hardgainer diet.

For the person who truly has done everything right and not gain muscle, the optimal hardgainer diet consists of a high amount of protein as well as a high amount of carbohydrates. Both protein and carbohydrates are needed in order to gain muscle. At the same time, dietary fat should be minimized in order to lessen the amount of fat gained while gaining mass. The idea here is that the body needs to be supplied with enough energy to build. If he does not eat enough of the right foods, then the body won’t have enough to build extra muscle.

There are many good choices that will appeal to one’s personal food preferences. Some great choices with high carbohydrates or high protein with low fat include lean red meat, protein shakes, whole eggs, bagels, and oatmeal. There are other foods that qualify as well on the hardgainer diet. The important thing is to make sure that the nutrients and amounts are sufficient to gain muscle and not fat.
